Trisha
went to a meeting about setting up a [women’s refuge], and “Literally at
6.00 a.m. the next morning, I was breaking into a beautiful,
Chamberlain designed house on Priory Road (now the Priory Hospital)
which we squatted to try to get a refuge, as there wasn’t one in the
city at that time. My house had the main phone line, when women would
ring and say ‘I need to get out, come and rescue me’, I’d be the one
who’d ring the mini-bus, and go and get the woman and kids and drive
them to the refuge. I was spending a lot of my time around women,
keeping the squat going and getting involved with Women's Aid”.
