Work and college for 13 years
1972
Jean joined the Navy in 1953 aged 18, and after a period of work eventually went to college in her late thirties.
“When I came out of the Navy I got
a good job working shifts, really good money, bought a car, did all
sorts. I was in telecommunications with the Airports Authority so I
worked at Birmingham Airport because I’d been a radio operator in the
Wrens. I gave up working at the Airport and went to college in the
early seventies and there was a lot happening in society then. I went
to college and that was enough, it was just brilliant, I loved it.
After thinking all those years that you’re thick you’re suddenly at
college”..
