Bars & Clubs 80s
January 1980 to January 1990
The eighties saw a diversity of venues catering for gay men and women. Prevalent were venues catering for the explosion in alternative movements, such as punk, goth and new romantics, which attracted a large following amongst gay men and lesbians. Some of whom were not always welcome in the traditional gay venues. The 80s also saw the emergence of bars dominated by women and a proliferation of women only discos and one nighters, eventually towards the latter part of the decade women and the alternative scene were welcomed into the male dominated mainstream gay bars.
