One of the first couples to register their civil partnership in
Birmingham, on the day it became possible, 21st December 2005, was
Maria and Tracy Emerson-Smith.
Maria and Tracy have been together since 1997, and held their civil
partnership at Highbury Hall, on the fifth anniversary of their
non-legal commitment ceremony held, with
uncanny foresight, on 21st December 2000.
Maria, 36 and Tracy, 41, incorporated a name change
declaration into the 2005 ceremony, combining their grand-mothers' maiden names.
