Tin Tins
February 1991 to February 1996
Situated at the top end of Smallbrook Queensway in the 1960s Bull Ring Shopping Centre. The club was set on two levels, a long thin bar downstairs with a large dance area with bar upstairs. The club was a popular alternative to the Nightingale on Thorp Street and many younger people went as they did not have to be signed in by a club member. The club was originally opened by Brian Wigley and Martin Healey. The club was eventually granted an 8 am entertainments licence, and started the legendary ‘Hype’ after club.
Although drinks could not be served after 2 am, the club was packed with clubbers. This was at a time when 'house music' was still semi underground and before the rise of the super clubs such as Godskitchen and Miss Moneypennys. It was one of the first clubs in the country to operate in this way and allow people to continue clubbing, navigating the restrictive licensing laws, although occasionally you could still buy alcohol after 2 am !
