Birmingham Gay and Lesbian Pride Ball organiser, Midlands Zone Editor Martin Monahan, who took over organisation of the Ball in 2001, says: “Since the 2007 event, the Ball now raises money directly to benefit local HIV/AIDS charities and LGBT organisations, and provides an evening of high quality entertainment for its hundreds of guests. The event also includes the Oscar-style Midlands Zone Readers' Awards, which offer a chance for Zone’s readership to recognise the contribution to the gay community which is being made by gay individuals, venues and organisations across the Midlands region. It’s been wonderful to watch the Pride Ball grow and develop, and I’m delighted to say that it is now the largest event of its kind in the UK.”
