Older lesbians and gay men
As lesbians and gay men age, they are increasingly likely to use services such as health care, social care, residential care they have to consider whether or not to disclose their sexuality. For many, growing up in times when homosexuality was taboo, and illegal for men, they may be less confident or willing to be open.
Services are only recently beginning to consider whether provision is suitable, sensitive and appropriate for the LGB community, particularly since the introduction of the [Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007].
In terms of social contacts and networks, the commercial gay village holds less allure, particularly for older lesbians. Unsurprisingly, social/support groups have been established, specifically the Older Lesbians' Network (OLN) and, for older gay men the Mature Gay Men's Group (MGM).
