Outpost
February 1997 to September 1997
The Outpost was first published in February 1997, offering ‘news, features and opinion with a second city perspective’. It was launched in Birmingham as a news-led free monthly newspaper for lesbians, gay men and their friends by Kyla Skinner, a freelance journalist and former Assistant Editor of The Pink Paper in London.
Independently financed from the outset, the newspaper proved a very popular addition to the local community, providing long-deserved coverage of the diverse campaigning, social and support groups throughout Birmingham and the Midlands, as well as events and initiatives run by local businesses and venues.
