LesBeWell set up in 1994
March 1994 to December 1998
Gudrun Limbrick and others started LesBeWell in 1994, focussing on lesbian health issues. Catherine M got
involved the following year. A core group of 10-12 women met most of
the time. They undertook fund-raising activities including e.g. a car
boot sale.
LesBeWell produced a regular photocopied newsletter called Dykenosis,
covering a range of health issues of interest to lesbians. It was distributed amongst lesbians via pubs, clubs, and subscriptions, from
1994 to 1998.
They organised two national lesbian health conferences in Birmingham, in 1995 and 1996.
They undertook a lesbian health questionnaire survey of over 300 lesbians but the results were not analysed until 2006, and published in 2007.
