Gays and the Armed Forces
The ban on gay men and lesbians serving in the Armed Forces was not finally lifted until the year 2000.
Prior to this the Forces could, and did, dishonourably discharge men and women found to be actively homosexual.
This did not apparently deter gay men and women signing up in significant numbers over the years, whether conscripted or voluntarily before, during and after the war years, and a number of our older contributors served in the Armed Forces.
