Bars & Clubs 90s
January 1990 to December 1999
The 90s saw the dance music explosion, with the rise of super-clubs and all weekend clubbing, many venues became larger and much more gender mixed. Many drug fuelled dance clubs were noted for there attitude free environments where sexuality was not an issue, with gay and straight clubbers mixing together, many for the first time.
The 90s also saw the emergence of the 'gay village' along Hurst Street with many small bars opening and the Nightingale moving to premises on Kent Street.
