Balsall Heath
Not only did a number of contributors note that they had or do live in Balsall Heath, this area was also home to the Birmingham Women's Centre, drawing in a number of lesbians to the various activities held there.
Balsall Heath is a run down inner city suburb on the edge of Birmingham city centre, although the suburb improves as it merges into Moseley, characterised by Victorian terrace housing, postwar social housing estates and small scale industrial buildings.
The suburb is home to the impressive Edwardian Moseley Road Baths, home of the Moseley Shoals gay swimming club.
Once an nationally infamous red light district, the suburb has improved greatly in the last fifteen years as regeneration initiaitives have taken effect, residents in the suburb have pioneered community action initiatives.
