Olivia Records founded in USA
January 1972
Olivia Records was founded in the USA to produce
and distribute 'Women's Music' predominantly music by lesbians. The original collective, which included the singer Meg Christian, had little experience in record production but went on to bring lesbian music to the eager ears of lesbians and feminists across the USA. In Britain, Women's Revolutions Per Minute, was run by Caroline Hutton who promoted and distributed their records from her Birmingham base.
The Olivia Records collective eventually disbanded in the nineties, when one of the original members of the collctive, Judy Dlugatz, rebranded Olivia to offer 'Lesbian Lifestyle' products, including cruises.
