Nightingale Camp Hill
February 1969 to February 1975
The first Nightingale was opened at 50 Camp Hill, Digbeth on the outskirts of Birmingham city centre. At the time this was still a tightly packed industrial area and Camp Hill was a row of dilapidated Victorian shops and offices. The premises were a small house that had been converted into an Indian Restaurant and nightclub. The club had capacity for about 70 people. Eventually the club was forced to move to make way for a road widening scheme.
