There has always been a large residential population in central Birmingham with several large post war housing estates, such as and proving popular choices for gay people over the years due to their convenient location for accessing the gay scene and city life, particularly popular are the on Holloway Circus.

Since the early 90s Birmingham, along with most British cities, has seen massive regeneration and an explosion of apartment building. With the city centre now an attractive, buzzing environment it is now one of the more popular areas for younger gay men and women to live giving traditional suburban locations such as and stiff competition.
