Birmingham Triangle Committee
November 1996
The first Birmingham Pride came about from an alliance between gay commercial interests and interested members of the wider gay community who formed the Birmingham Triangle Committee and worked together to organise the first event.
The first pride committee consisted of Bill Gavan (chair), Rory Murray (secretary), Julia Radcliffe (treasurer), Dave Babbington (admin), Polly Goodwin, Chris Higgins, Clare Jones, Nick O’Reilly, Donald Steel, Trevor Sword and Inge Thornton.
The event had a projected expenditure of £11,710; in fact the event cost £18,924.86 but through donations, sponsorships and collecting it made £30,018.94, leaving a large sum left over which was divided amongst Birmingham and Midlands community groups and charities.
